Kathryn McKenzie Named Director of Human Resources at Philadelphia Zoo
4/22/2008 12:00:00 AM

Gary Fassak, Chief Operating Officer for the Philadelphia Zoo, announces the appointment of Kathryn McKenzie, former Manager of Human Resources for The Risk Management Association (RMA), as the new Director of Human Resources for America’s first zoo.

“We are all thrilled to have Kathy join the Zoo team,” said Fassak. “She will play a key role on the senior leadership team as we work to build the Zoo’s conservation mission, deliver the Zoo’s brand of connecting families, wildlife and the environment we share, and work to drive a guest-centric experience that builds loyalty to the Zoo and return visits over time.”

“I'm excited to be joining the Philadelphia Zoo,” said McKenzie. “I look forward to supporting the zoo’s mission particularly in the areas of education, conservation and ensuring the best guest experience.”

McKenzie has over fourteen years experience in human resources spanning both for-profit and non-profit organizations. She started her career working for Frito Lay as an Employee Relations Associate. In this job she first learned about managing seasonal hiring by working with a production facility that had peak volumes in the summer. She subsequently worked for Cox Communications where she was part of a team that worked to transform the cable company from an operations-focused organization to that of a customer-centered culture. After Cox Communications, Kathryn joined the Philadelphia School District helping oversee the operation of an inner-city school with 1200 students, which gave her valuable experience in managing difficult issues and the satisfaction of making a difference in an important Philadelphia institution. She has also served on Mayor Nutter's Human Resources Transition Team.
