Internships

Our college internship program is one of the many ways the Philadelphia Zoo demonstrates a commitment to is mission of conservation, education, science and recreation. Through our internships, we provide college students with practical, high-quality experience that enhances their academic work and helps them achieve their professional goals.

 

Partner Programs

The Philadelphia Zoo's college internship program partners with Delaware Valley College's Bachelor of Science in Zoo Science to offer education and animal care internships. Visit their website to learn more.

College students are welcome to apply for the following Zoo internships:

Animal Care Internship
This internship will give you the opportunity to work side by side with zookeepers and allow you to participate in virtually all experiences you would have as a full time zookeeper. Many of our interns from past years have gone on to become zookeepers, go to vet school or graduate school, or become animal trainers!
 
Conservation and Science Internship
Assist with the day-to-day operation of a zoo-based conservation and research program including performing administrative duties associated with project management and developing public awareness materials. As available, may be assigned to implement a specific project.
 
Education Ambassador Internship
The Education Ambassador Internship is designed to give college students practical experience in education, conservation, and animal care and the opportunity to gain a broad background of the Zoo community and how it operates.
 
Public Programming Internship
The Public Programming Internship is designed to give college students practical experience in developing educational programming and events and the opportunity to gain a broad background of the Zoo community and how it operates.
 
Public Relations Internship
Assist with preparing and distributing press releases, implementing special events, responding to media inquiries and requests for information from the public, and maintain the press clip library.
 
Sales and Marketing Internship
Support staff in the areas of membership, group sales, facility rentals, advertising, sponsorship and marketing.
 
Volunteer Internship
Assist with all activities related to the recruitment, training, placement, coordination and retention of volunteers. Specific responsibilities may include identifying and cultivating recruitment resources, assisting to coordinate volunteers at special events and orienting new volunteers.
 
Guest Relations Internship
This survey of Guest Relations is an internship opportunity that will allow students to become familiar with all aspects of the Zoo atmosphere, including front line exposure in admissions, rides and attractions, hospitality, project management, operations and events.
 
Events Intern
