Day 11
We head out of Tierra del Fuego today heading up to Torres del Paine National Park with a stop in the town of Puerto Natales along the way. We see a lot of great birds along the way including, Black-necked swans and white tufted grebes (with babies!). We don’t reach Puerto Natales until early evening so we decide to stay in a hostel for the night instead of arriving in Torres del Paine too late. Another great dinner and relaxing inside for the night.
Torres del Paine
We stay in the park for several days and have lots of great sightings of Andean Condors soaring over camp. We also see Torrent ducks in the rushing mountain streams and take a ferry out to the edge of a glacier. All in all a good ending to our trip and a nice contrast in habitat to the mudflats of Tierra del Fuego.
If you would like to continue to follow the saga of the Red knots, check the expedition blogspot where Dr. Dan Hernandez will be posting updates as he prepares for the Red knots to migrate back to the Artic for breeding and stop here in the Delaware Bay to refuel in May. www.redknotexpedition.blogspot.com
