The Philadelphia Zoo offers many volunteer opportunities - either here on the Zoo's grounds or in the field. Learn more about volunteering at the Zoo.
If you'd prefer to venture beyond the Zoo's gates and take part in a conservation activity in our region, here is a list of just a few of the organizations in the tri-state area that need volunteers:
Delaware Riverkeeper Network
Marine Mammal Stranding Center
The Nature Conservancy
Partnership for the Delaware Estuary
Pinelands Preservation Alliance
Tri-State Bird Rescue
The Wetlands Institute
Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association
For the more adventurous in spirit, there are various international conservation projects that depend on volunteers. Here are just examples of few past and present opportunities:
- an international observation program to monitor guano harvesting and the safety of the Humboldt penguin colony at Punta San Juan Reserve, Peru
- a cleaning and rehabilitating effort to help thousands of African penguins rescued from the oil spill off the coast of Cape Town in June of 2000
- a field research expedition on Andros Island in the Bahamas to help save the threatened Andros iguana
