The actual number of trees to be planted as part of the Zoo’s onsite project is small compared to the other sites, but is important as a visual example of the Footprints project and a focus of education messages about climate change. The on-grounds site will serve as a platform to discuss carbon sequestration and the Zoo’s other greening initiatives. It will also provide valuable opportunities to discuss the many ways individuals can make a difference by changing their behavior.
Approximately 250 trees will be planted in areas that total one acre across Zoo grounds, beautifying and cooling the site, assisting with water recharge, and offering habitat and food for resident and migrant bird species.
