The Philadelphia Zoo is proud to announce the birth of our newest Humboldt penguin!

The youngest member of our penguin family was born on April 2, 2008, and named "Spud" by its keepers.  The sex is still unknown, pending a blood test once it's a little bit older.  Although Spud spends most of its time inside the den, it's already a TV star.  Spud has been featured recently on ABC's Primetime Weekend show.

It will probably be a few weeks yet before Spud is actively playing outside in the penguin habitat, but you may be able to catch glimpses of our baby penguin in the meantime.
